What did you read this summer?

There are lots of ways to stay connected to the classroom even when we are not together.  This blog is a place for reflection about, questions concerning, and connections to the content we are studying.  This post is about reading for fun. So, what did you read this summer?  I know that you read the book by Foster, but that can't be what you just picked up and decided to read.  This summer I have read several books that I thought were really entertaining.

Reboot is the debut novel by Amy Tintera about a teen-aged girl who comes back to life after she is shot.  It's kind of a mix between a zombie thriller and a teen romance.  I haven't read the second novel in the series, but I'm sure it will be just as interesting.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs has been on my list of "To-Read" for quite some time.  The author was inspired to write the tale by the strange and interesting photos that he began collecting at flea markets and antique stores.  The photographs are all "real" although some were altered when they were taken.  I really thought this was a clever idea for a story.

Man's Search for Meaning is by holocaust survivor and psychotherapist, Viktor Frankl.  It is an inspiring study of the psychology of the survivor's of the concentration camps.  I have read a lot of different stories about the holocaust, but I have never read one from this perspective.  It has made me think a lot about how I live my life.
For more book suggestions and just general fun stuff about reading, check out GoodReads.com. You can search for books according to genre, build your own "book shelves" of books you've read or want to read, and talk to other readers about what you're reading.

Happy reading!

Summer Reading

This summer you will need to do a little work to prepare for AP Lit and Comp.  Reading this book will give you a terrific foundation for the class.  Not only will you learn a few tricks and tips from a funny college English professor, you will be able to practice applying these skills over the course of the year.  So, don't delay!  Dive in and get to reading!
